Projects

I bring methodology rigour, strong thematic knowledge, and practical field experience to projects and programmes. I design, manage, and conduct rigorous and impactful research, assessments, and evaluations that assist organisations in making effective decisions and improving interventions. Some examples of my work include:

DFID/Population Council-led Evidence to End FGM/C Programme in Mali & Burkina Faso

As a Principal Investigator (Team Leader), I led a mixed methods cross-border study in Burkina Faso and Mali to assess the effectiveness of law and other interventions designed to prevent or respond to female genital mutilation (FGM) and child early/forced marriage. I led the study design, obtained ethical approvals in Burkina Faso, Mali, and the USA, managed the study implementation and worked with a multi-country team of seven experts, 40 quantitative data collectors, 10 qualitative data collectors and 8 data analysts (with Nvivo). I handled countless challenges with my team, including navigating a volatile security environment. I liaised and worked closely with government bodies, local leaders and security forces who were instrumental in the success of the research. The research yielded high-quality evidence crucial for policy and practice. Check out the technical report and the policy briefs in French and English

European Union Asylum Support Agency (EUAA) Capacity Strengthening on Gender Issues in Malta

As a Senior Gender Expert, I conducted a capacity strengthening activity in Malta for high-level experts from EU+ national administrations on gender-related issues, focusing on female genital mutilation (FGM) and early/forced marriage in West Africa to improve their understanding of asylum-seeking cases within this context.

GIZ Gender Audit for Pandemic Preparedness and Response in Togo, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone

As a Senior Gender and Methodology Expert, I led the design of the audit methodology and tools, including staff self-assessment surveys, KII and FGD guides tailored to eight categories of stakeholders, in French and English. The audit was then implemented in Togo, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to assess the capacity of National Coordination Institutions (NCIs) to mainstream gender in pandemic/epidemic preparedness and response efforts. The evidence gathered helped develop a gender action plan for each country and identify priority training needs for NCI staff.

Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), Adolescent SRHR Action Research in Senegal

As a Senior Qualitative Research Lead, I led a qualitative action research focusing on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across three regions in Senegal, in smooth collaboration with a team of 10 experts. The evidence generated guided the development of interventions to promote adolescents’ utilization of SRHR services and to improve parent-adolescent communication on SRHR issues.

Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), Gender, Health and Women's Economic Empowerment Baseline Study in Burkina Faso

As a Senior Researcher and Gender Expert, I coordinated the design, implementation and reporting of a representative household survey involving 3000 households and 3000 individuals. This baseline study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) on maternal and newborn health, adolescent SRHR, sexual and gender-based violence and women’s economic empowerment. The data collected provided baseline knowledge and indicators that informed and guided the implementation of four interventions. This was a large-scale research that involved 12 experts and 70 data collectors.
